You
may wish to visit the French properties on St Helena during your stay and we
will gladly you.
These properties,
attached to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are managed by a local
charity, Saint Helena Napoleonic Heritage
Ltd.
Longwood
House is open to the public every Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am to 1pm and the Emperor's
Tomb from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3pm. The Briars Pavilion is open on
Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 11am.
These
schedules may appear restrictive. However they correspond both to local
traditions (weekend and public holidays closing) and to the means at our
disposal to provide reception and security.
Admission fees and
audio guides
As in most
build heritage places and museums, visits are subject to the payment of an
entrance fee.
For House of
Longwood and the Emperor's Tomb, this entrance fee is £12.
The Longwood House is equipped with individual audio guides. The rental
price is £2 per audio guide.
Longwood House audio guide offers:
-
A quick visit: in this case, we
recommend that you only press the large size numbers displayed on the doorways
to the entrance of the different rooms.
-
For detailed visit: we
recommend that you press on all the numbers you will find at the entrance to
the rooms, in the windows or next to the objects on display.
Should you
not be able to complete the full visit with the audio guide during opening
hours, then please retain your ticket and we shall acknowledge it for a second
time and re-issue you an audio guide should you want to return another day during
your stay.
For the visit of the Briars Pavilion, the tour is provided by Michel Dancoisne-Martineau if present on the island. Otherwise, you will be offered an audioguide. In both cases, the entrance fee is £5.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that part
of the pavilion is inhabited. Therefore only the room connected to Napoleon is
open to the visitors.
Opening of Longwood
House on weekends and public holidays
If unfortunately, your stay on the island does not allow you to free yourself on weekdays, Longwood House can be especially open to you, which however requires a pre-booking. Special openings are at a cost of £150. This fees covers up to six individuals + £12 per any extra visitors.
I wish you a pleasant stay on St Helena and welcome you to our estates on the island.
NB: All revenues (entrance fees, audio guide, services and shop) are allocated to the management and maintenance of the Domains, entrusted to Saint Helena Napoleonic Heritage, whose founders are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the St Helena Government and the Fondation Napoleon.
The
reception and maintenance staff is only composed of local employees. Most of
them are not French-speaking, a difficulty that audio guides can largely
overcome.
We thank
you for your understanding on this point.
