 PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

ARRANGEMENTS FOR VISIT OF CRUISE SHIP COSTA DELIZIOSA

The cruise ship Costa Deliziosa from the Carnival Maritime line is scheduled to call at St Helena on Friday 3 March. The ship will arrive at 10:00 and depart at 18:00.

The Costa Deliziosa is coming from Walvis By on her way to Rio de Janeiro. She is 294m long, with a beam of 36.4m, and a gross tonnage of 59,465.

1657 passengers and 869 crew are on board. Over 400 passengers are booked on Island tours, but given the large number of passengers that are likely to come ashore many will be walking around Jamestown, and some will also want to hire taxis to see the Island independently.

Those operating freelance taxis should ensure they have the appropriate licence and insurance cover to operate on the day.

The bank kiosk in the Customs Building will be open until 17:00 on Friday for currency exchange. Currency exchange rates are available at the Bank of St Helena, and also displayed in the Tourist Office window.

A temporary one way traffic system will be in operation on Friday 3 March, from 11:00 to 17:00. The one way system will be in place in the direction of Gordons Post to Hutts Gate, along Tomb Road. Traffic wishing to travel in the opposite direction will be diverted from Hutts Gate to Gordons Post via The Dungeon. The diversion is detailed on the map below:

The one way system will be clearly signposted and will be removed as soon as no longer required.

The one way system has been put in place in order to more safely manage traffic and ease congestion, given the anticipated increase in vehicle volumes due to the visit of the ship. This is the same process as has been put in place in previous years, and for the last cruise ship visit, and is likely to also be a feature during future cruise ship visits.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their understanding in this matter.

If you would like to register your interest in opportunities for future cruise ship visits, such as tour guiding or merchant stalls, please get in touch with the Tourist Office by telephone on 22158.
